Anna McKinney, LMHC

Board Member

Anna McKinney (she/her) is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based in Washington State. She earned her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Northwest University (Kirkland, WA) in 2017, following a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Alvernia University (Pennsylvania) in 2004. Before becoming a counselor, Anna worked as an educator, private tutor, and homeschooling parent for over six years.

Anna owns a private practice and also works part-time in a group practice, providing both therapy and supervision for new graduates working toward full mental health licensure. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, and pursues hobbies that center around the arts, crafting, gardening, animals, and the outdoors. She has a long history of community volunteer work and values the role that connection and service play in overall health and well-being.

As a board member of MHPEA, Anna draws on her career-long experience within systems—first in education, now in healthcare. Decades of witnessing systemic discrimination and inequities have fueled her commitment to advocate for change. Personal experiences with disrupted care, denied coverage for necessary services, and growing barriers for both clients and providers have reinforced her belief that healthcare should be shaped by providers and patients, not by corporations or profit-driven interests. Anna is honored to serve within an organization that unites mental health professionals to fight for equity, social justice, and a system refocused on the needs of clients and clinicians.
